​While the musical materials of this piece are mostly defined in the score, the musicians are invited to improvise several aspects of their sounds and gestures. For example, the vibraphone imitates the beating of a saxophone multiphonic. Later, the saxophone imitates the vibraphone’s trills through timbral fluctuations. My goal is to create space for players to listen deeply and respond to each other in intimate ways. The work explores various meanings of “inflection,” exploring musical-social relationships between instrumental characters that bend, modulate, filter, and change each other.
